The basics

Lifting strapsexplained in 30 seconds.

Lifting straps are sturdy straps that you put around your wrist and wrap around the bar, so your grip is no longer the limiting factor on heavy pulling exercises.

The muscles in your back, legs and traps can often handle more than your hands can hold. Straps remove that limit. That way you train the muscles you want to train, right to the end of your set.

Why

3 reasons forlifting straps.

Grip is no longer a limit

Your set ends when your back or legs are done, not when your hands give out.

Focus on the target muscle

Less attention on squeezing, more on the movement and the muscle you're training.

More volume

More reps and heavier sets on pulling exercises mean more stimulus for growth.

Application

For whichexercises do you use them?

  • Deadlift: conventional, sumo and Romanian
  • Rows with barbell, dumbbell or cable
  • Shrugs and rack pulls
  • Lat pulldown and weighted pull-ups

They don't help on pressing exercises like the bench press. For those, use wrist wraps.

Step-by-step plan

How to uselifting straps.

  1. Loop around your wrist

Slide your hand through the loop. The strap runs over the inside of your wrist towards your thumb.

  2. Place the strap under the bar

Put your hand on the bar and guide the loose end under the bar.

  3. Wrap towards your fingers

Wrap the strap around the bar, away from your body. One to one and a half wraps is enough.

  4. Twist tight and grip

Roll the bar slightly towards you until the strap is tight. Grip the bar and start your set.
